SOL SHSHL Ice Hockey Wrap (2-19-15)

Check out the results for SOL SHSHL teams in action Thursday.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 5, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1
Rock South (11-4-1) clinched sole possession of the top spot in the SHSHL National Conference standings, but Andy Cicconi made sure it wasn’t easy.
The Indians’ senior goalie has had some big performances this season, but none bigger than his 68-save effort in Thursday’s rivalry game. His remarkable performance kept the Indians reasonably close the entire night in a contest dominated by the Golden Hawks.
The Golden Hawks fired 20 shots on net in the opening period. Just one got past Cicconi, and that came 3:20 into the period when Matt Owens connected, using assists from Brian McBride and Karl Martin.
Only two off 33 shots got past Cicconi in the second period. Danny Richmond (Nick Meli/Parker Defelice) and Dylan Varian (Justin Adams assist) both scored with Varian connecting on a power play.

Danny Richmond scored early in the third period, using assists from Meli and Max Bergman to put the Golden Hawks on top 4-0 The Indians got on the scoreboard on a power play goal by Cavan Tully. Meli closed it out with an unassisted goal in the closing minute of the game.
Rock South’s Christian George turned in a standout effort of his own, turning away 22 of 23 shots on a night that saw the Golden Hawks hold a 73-23 advantage in shots.

NESHAMINY 6, PENNSBURY 5
Nick Foster connected for the hat trick and led the Redskins with four points. No play loomed larger in Thursday’s must-win game than Foster’s game-winner (Ian Dixon assist) that came with the score deadlocked 7:29 into the third period. Neither team scored the rest of the way.
The win gave the Redskins (6-10) sole possession of fourth place in the conference standings while the Falcons (9-7) finished in third place behind Rock South and William Tennent.
The Falcons appeared to seize control when they scored three straight goals within a three-minute span just over five minutes into the opening period. Tommy Hynes (Ryan Mudrick assist) got things started with a goal 5:48 into the period, and 34 seconds later, Luke Ledes (Jack Kelly/Kyle Wilkins assists) scored. A goal by Kelly (Ledes/Mike Tarasiewicz assists) put the Falcons on top 3-0.
The ‘Skins showed their resiliency, answering with a pair of goals late in the period by Mike Maher (Mark Hullings/Chris Wojnar assists) and Daulton O’Neill-Stevens (Chris Wojnar assists) to make it a 3-2 game after one period.
Goals by Ian Dixon and Foster put the Redskins on top 4-3, but Adam Shapiro scored the equalizer 9:07 into the second period to make it a 4-4 game heading into the final period.
Foster (Blaze Gerenda/Ian Dixon assists) scored a go-ahead goal in the opening minutes of the third period only to watch Shapiro (Kelly/Wilkins assists) answer with a goal to knot the score. Foster’s goal off the ensuing faceoff turned out to be the game winner.
Matt Sheley turned away 29 shots in the win. The Falcons held a 34-29 advantage in shots.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 5, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 0
Jonah Brous was magnificent in goal, turning away all 42 shots he faced to earn the shutout in a battle of neighboring rivals.
The win gives the Bucks a shot at second place in the Continental Conference standings. The Bucks (9-2-5) hold a one-point lead over idle North Penn. The Knights, however, will have a chance to determine their own fate when they will take on Central Bucks South in the regular season finale for both teams on Friday night.
Erich Schwass (Luke McCleerey assist) scored the only goal Brous would need in the opening minutes of the first period. Patrick Smith followed with an unassisted goal, and then it was John McCreadie (Scotty Cappuccio/Patrick Smith assists) and Schwass (Shawn Phillips assist) scoring for a 4-0 West lead after one period.
A power play goal by Scotty Cappuccio (Ryan Trefz/Shawn Phillipps assists) 6:36 into the second period was the extent of the scoring for either team.
The Titans (12-2-1) held a 42-16 advantage in shots, an advantage that was negated by Brous.
