SOL SHSHL Ice Hockey Wrap (2-21-14)

Pennsbury 2       Neshaminy 2

In a battle of neighboring rivals with playoff implications for both squads, the Falcons and Redskins battled to a 2-2 tie.
The Redskins got on the scoreboard first when Ian Dixon scored 9:27 into the first period. That lead held until Pennsbury’s Linder Kenyon scored a power play goal for the equalizer just 24 seconds into the second period. The Falcons led 2-1 after John Thornton connected 3:42 into the period.
Neshaminy’s Anthony Sabatini evened the score with a goal just over two minutes into the final period. Neither team could find the net the rest of the way.
The Falcons held a decided 34-21 edge in shots, but that advantage was negated by the 32-save effort in goal of Neshaminy’s Matt Sheley. Pennsbury’s Trevor Schadler also had a strong game in goal, turning away 19 of 21 shots.

The Indians exploded out of the gate to a 5-0 lead after one period. Offensively, they were led by the four-point efforts of Chris Malanga (two goals, two assists) and Daniel Rock (three goals, one assist).

In the second period, Rock scored a shorthanded goal before the Bucks got on the scoreboard when Patrick Smith converted a power play goal. Souderton’s Tyler Dipietro answered with a goal, and West’s Tanner Ginn and Souderton’s Charles Kakreka exchanged goals to close out the period with Souderton on top 8-2. Souderton 7    Pennridge 6   -  Thursday Feb 20, 2014
Alex Politsky and Daniel Rock both contributed one goal and three assists (four points) to lead the Indians to the win in a battle of neighboring rivals on Thursday.
Kyle Milosec put the Indians on the scoreboard 5:53 into the opening period, but Joshua Finlayson answered with a goal for the Rams. Souderton’s Clay Anders and Pennridge’s Aaron Crosson exchanged goals, and the two teams were deadlocked 2-2 after one.
Crosson gave the Rams a short-lived lead with a goal 3:04 into the second period, but a goal by Anders 12 seconds later knotted the score and sparked a 5-0 Indian run. Included in that tear were goals by Politsky, Rock, Kyle Milosec and Connor McCausland.
The Rams made things interesting with three unanswered goals in the third period with one each from Crosson – who completed the hat trick – Joey Finlayson and Jake Wexler (power play).
Pennridge goalie Steven Wilms was credited with 45 saves in a contest that saw the Indians hold a decisive 52-19 advantage in shots.
