SHSHL Continental Conference ‘Snapshot’
Central Bucks South Titans

Central Bucks South head coach Tom Coyne and his Titans (7-0-0, 14) will put their unbeaten SHSHL Continental Conference record on the line this Thursday as the defending state AA champion will face-off with the other unbeaten SHSHL Continental Conference team  – Central Bucks West (8-0-0, 16).

“There is always a little more interest in the South-West game,” said Coyne of the inter-district rival.  “We knew going into the season that West was going to have an excellent team, and the players always circle the West and North Penn games on the schedule.

“The players on both of our teams also intersect with club hockey,” added Coyne.  “There is always a little more talk between the two teams when they play each other.”

CB South is coming off a very convincing 3-0 victory over North Penn last week.  The Knights (4-5-0) came into the game unbeaten on the ice – but had to forfeit the first four games of the season because of an ineligible player on their roster.

“We approached the game as if they were undefeated,” said Coyne.  “A piece of paper that says they lost four games doesn’t mean too much.  It was a good test for us – and we were glad we came away with the win.”

The Titans showcase a remarkable foursome of blue line defenders in senior Connor Matsinger, senior Jared Conroy, senior Thomas Liberta, and junior Jason Koblick.

“Connor, Jared, and Thomas are all captains – and they were all captains last year as juniors,” said Coyne.  “They are tested – they know the drill – and they police the locker room.  They help make us play the right way.”

CB South also features a balanced scoring attack with Matt Stoll (9 goals - 10 assists – 19 points), Jason Bechtel (8-11-19), Damon DeLaurentis (9-9-18), and Joseph DeLaruentis (6-12-18) among the league leaders in scoring.

“We want to end the season strong and be able to peak at the right time,” said Coyne.  “We plan to take each game as it comes.”

SHSHL National Conference ‘Snapshot’
Council Rock South Golden Hawks

Council Rock South head coach Joe Houk and the Golden Hawks have a huge SHSHL National Conference game this Thursday as second place CR South plays first place William Tennent.

“Our goal is to finish at the top of the division and that starts with the game against Tennent,” said Houk.  “Tennent has shown to be a pretty good team – but I feel that we should match up well against them.

“We got off to a slow start this year, but we have been playing well together the last few weeks,” added Houk.  “We have seven games left against some pretty good competition, and we just need to stay focused and work hard.”

The lone losses on the Golden Hawk resume this year came in crossover games with SHSHL Continental Conference powers CB South (5-2) and CB West (4-2), while CR South tied Continental Conference foe Pennridge (6-6).

“The other conference is stronger, but teams like Pennsbury and Neshaminy have really improved,” said Houk of his SHSHL National Conference brothers.  “Sometimes when you play some of the weaker teams you win games and create bad habits.  We want to play good teams.”

The Hawks have received excellent offensive firepower from senior Darren Barder.

“It seems like 80 per cent of our offensive scoring goes through Darren,” said Houk.  He is a highly skilled player with a great shot and has really been on fire lately.”

CR South senior Anthony DeRose anchors the blue line, while sophomore Mason Procz tends goal.

“Anthony has stepped up to be a real leader and has a great eye on the ice,” said Houk.  “And when we have a big game, we are going to ask Mason to keep us in games.  He is only a sophomore, but he is our go-to guy.”

SHSHL American Conference ‘Snapshot’
Plymouth Whitemarsh Colonials

Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Josh Aiello and his Colonials have playoff goals on the agenda this season.

“We haven’t started the season with as many wins as we had hoped,” said Aiello.  “But we feel that we can string some wins together and move up into either third or fourth place and get into the playoffs.”

PW (2-6-0, 4) is currently in fifth place in the standings just two points out of the playoffs behind fourth place Hatboro-Horsham (3-6-0, 6).  The Colonials have a showdown with the Hatters this Friday in a game that could have strong playoff implications.

“Once you get into the playoffs – anything can happen,” said Aiello.  “We are starting to jell right now, and we are gaining confidence.”

Plymouth Whitemarsh showcases one of the elite players in the SHSHL American Conference in senior Chris Rinaldi.

“It is truly an honor to have him on this team,” said Aiello.  “He is a great student-athlete, has great determination, and always puts the team first.  And he has one of the strongest shots in the league – it is a laser.

“Chris could barely skate when he was a freshman,” added Aiello.  “But he loves hockey and has put a tremendous amount of work in to improve.  He lives and breaths the sport – goes to the gym every day – and shoots about 1000 pucks a day.”

Senior Nate Slowik anchors the blue line, while junior Cole Shula is the goaltender.

“Nate has matured as a leader on and off the ice,” said Aiello.  “And Cole is in his first year as goaltender and his confidence has grown with each game he plays.”
