Upper Moreland head coach Mike Angelo shared a piece of inspiration from the Flyers of old that said Every Shift Matters.  And his Golden Bears took that information to heart as Upper Moreland claimed the Suburban High School Hockey League Public ‘A’ championship with a 10-7 victory over Wissahickon at Bucks County Ice.
“I found that quote on a piece of paper, and Matt Iehle hung it up in the locker room before the game,” said Angelo.  “And that was the way we approached the game tonight.  Forget about the game – focus on winning each and every shift.”
The high-scoring Bears were fueled in the championship final by junior sensation Sean Lloyd who was magnificent with a four-goal – four assist performance.
“Sean really turned it loose again,” said Angelo.  “He sees the entire ice so well, and controls the puck to the point where he can undress a defensive player.  His real talent is in his hands.”
“I have a tremendous amount of trust in my teammates,” said Lloyd.  “This was a very important game for our team, and we wanted badly to bring a championship to Upper Moreland.  I didn’t play high school hockey last year (sophomore season), but I’m glad I’m back.  This year has been a lot of fun.”
“Sean is such a tremendous talent,” said Wissahickon head coach Mike Wolf.  “I have seen him play for years, and he has a lot of firepower.  But he also plays with some talented players.  Upper Moreland is a team that just might be a little bit bigger and a little bit stronger than we are.”

Upper Moreland used that size and strength advantage to create an imposing 8-2 lead, but Wissahickon refused to roll over and closed to within 9-6 early in the third period.

“The one thing that this team will do is keep on coming,” said Wolf.  “We have a lot of respect for Upper Moreland, but we just weren’t going to pack it in.”

“Wissahickon can score a lot of goals, and Luke Honorowski is one of the best players in the league,” said Angelo.  “We held him to two goals tonight, and that is quite an accomplishment.  If Sean Lloyd isn’t the best player in this league – Luke Honorowski is.  The best two players in the league were going at each other tonight.

“The players on this team took this championship game seriously – they wanted to win this game for the school,” added Angelo.  “This just wasn’t a tune-up for the Flyers Cup – this was an important game for us.”

“Upper Moreland is an extremely talented team and deserved to win the championship,” said Wolf.  “We didn’t make it easy for them, though.  I’m sure their players, coaches, and fans had a huge sigh of relief after the game.

“This was a great experience for our team, and now we get ready for the Flyers Cup next week,” continued Wolf.  “Like I told the players, the sun will still come out tomorrow.”

Let’s all hope so.
