SOL Trio Named US Lacrosse Academic All-Americans

Trio of SOL Lax Players Named Academic All-American

Wissahickon senior Nate DeGroat, Central Bucks South senior Dillon Kelly and Central Bucks East senior Sean McGovern have been named to the prestigious 2015 US Lacrosse Academic All American team via a vote of high school coaches representing the Eastern Pennsylvania region.

The trio earned the honor by exhibiting exemplary lacrosse skills, good sportsmanship on the field while representing high standards of academic achievement in the classroom and also making significant contributions to the school and community.

The Philadelphia region Academic All-American selections – including DeGroat, Kelly and McGovern – were recognized at Thursday night’s Philadelphia Lacrosse Association (PLA) banquet at Radnor Hotel.

Kelly, a senior attackman, is the first player in the history of the Titans’ program to receive the honor.  Kelly was a starter for the 2015 Suburban One Continental Division Co-Champion Titans, who amassed a record of 11-1 in conference play and advanced to the second round of the District One playoffs.  Kelly’s season was highlighted by scoring a team-high four goals in Central Bucks South’s first round district playoff win, a 14-7 victory over Perkiomen Valley.  Kelly will attend the Schreyer Honors College at Penn State University.

McGovern, a first team all-league goalie, helped lead the Patriots to their most successful season in program history. CB East earned a berth in the PIAA State Tournament and notched the program’s first state win before falling in the second round to District One champion Springfield-Delco. McGovern has signed a letter of intent to continue his lacrosse career at Boston University where he will major in International Business.

DeGroat was a second team all-league midfielder for a Trojan squad that finished second to Upper Dublin in the SOL American Conference standings. The Trojans (12-2 SOL) only two league losses were to the Flying Cardinals. DeGroat will continue his lacrosse career at the University of California, Berkeley, where he will major in business.
