CR NORTH’S ROBINSON WILL GO FOR GOLD

By Glenn Kaiser

Council Rock North’s 145-pounder, Cameron Robinson, will have a shot at garnering gold this evening at 7:00pm.  Robinson was explosive in the early moments of his semifinal match with Erie Cathedral Prep’s Paniro Johnson, scoring a takedown and three back-points with a tilt, winning 10-6.  Paniro came back midway through the bout, but Robinson used another set of back-points with a bar tilt to earn his spot in the finals.  Ryan Anderson (Bethlehem Catholic) awaits Robinson for the title match in the Giant Center. Anderson defeated Robinson, a junior, in the Escape the Rock finals earlier this season 9-3.

Kyle Hauserman advanced to the 106-pound consolation finals after shutting out Connellsville’s Mason Prinkey 7-0 in one consi semi-final.  Hauserman edged Julian Maldanado (Boyertown) 4-3 in a fourth-round consolation match Saturday morning.   Council Rock South’s Kyle Waterman suffered an overtime loss to Seneca Valley’s Dylan Chappell in one of the 106-pound semi-finals.  Chappell was able to control Waterman thru out the overtime periods winning 2-1.  Waterman lost his consolation semi-final match and will go for fifth place this evening against Prinkey.

The Golden Hawks second semifinalist, Shane Hanson-Ashworth was also dealt a loss in overtime in his 120-pound bout versus Kurtis Phipps (Norwin).  Phipps won 5-3 in overtime after Hanson-Ashworth got a stall call on Phipps to put the match into extra periods.  Hanson-Ashworth will battle neighbor Luke Lucerne (CR North) for bronze tonight, after his 3-1 decision win over Will Betancourt (Manheim Central).  Lucerne lost 3-1 to Sean Pierson (Nazareth) in the other semifinal at 120.  Lucerne handled Cameron Enriquez (Stroudsburg) 6-4 in the consolation semis, hanging on late for the win.

Souderton’s Tyler Williams was denied a shot at the 138-pound title by Nazareth’s Dashawn Farber.  Williams could not find a way to score, losing 2-0.  However, Williams rebounded nicely against D1 foe Antonio Petrucelli (Owen J Roberts), winning handily 9-4 scoring from all positions.  Williams will battle Ty Linsenbigler (Hempfield Area) for the bronze in this evening’s medal matches.  Williams put a 10-0 major decision on Linsenbigler in the quarterfinals.

William Tennent’s A.J. Tamburrino will obtain his goal of placing high on the podium. Although it won’t be for a state title, he can win the consolation bracket.  Tamburrino used a late takedown to edge Paniro Johnson 3-2 in his consolation semifinal tilt.  Tamburrino will tangle with Jagger Condomitti (Northampton) for bronze.

Despite only one finalist from the SOL, several top-4 finishes will be turned in.  Obviously, one bronze medalist will be from the SOL at 120-pounds with Lucerne and Hanson-Ashworth battling one another there.  Council Rock North pushed ahead of CR South in the team standings. The Indians jumped into the top-10 with 51 points, good enough to be sitting in eighth place.  Meanwhile, the Golden Hawks fell out of the top-5, down to 12th overall with 45 points.
