Quinn Collins Secures Championship Belt at Escape the Rock (ETR)
Central Bucks East Senior Wins 189-pound Championship at Council Rock South

Holland, PA-Central Bucks East entered ETR this season knowing that they had individual firepower, especially in their two returning state qualifiers Mason Stein and Quinn Collins. CB East head coach Dave Scarpill made the right decision, as both placed at the rugged and highly touted 2022 ETR. Quinn Collins captured the 189-pound championship and coveted championship belt with a stunning third period pin over Jesuit High School-Tampa’s Sergio Desiante. Collins was trailing 7-2 heading into the third period as Desiante was superior on his feet with a few takedowns, but when they got into a scramble with Collins under-hook, Quinn hit a quick toss throwing Desiante to his back securing a headlock to finish off the match with the fall.
Two other local Suburban One League grapplers advanced to the finals but had to settle as runner-ups, as Matt Colajezzi (Council Rock South) and Carl DiGiorgio (Central Bucks West) finished second at 160-pounds and 215-pounds respectively. Colajezzi dropped a 6-3 decision to Kingsway’s Dakota Morris, and DiGiorgoio lost 8-2 to State College’s Nicholas Pavlechko. Council Rock South finished in the top-10 in the team standings with a 6th place finish and 103 points with three medalists. Malvern Prep, ranked #1 in the country in some rankings, ran away with the tourney amassing 224.5-points. The SOL’s best dual meet team, Quakertown, finished 16th (63) and CB East with 57 points was 19th to place in the top 20 of this prestigious field.
Quakertown’s Frederick Retter placed 4th at heavyweight, dropping the 285-pound bronze medal bout in sudden victory 6-1 in overtime. Panther freshman Colin Gaj won his consolation 5th place championship match over Cincinnati LaSalle’s Jake Niffenegger 5-4. CB East’s Mason Stein placed 8th at 152, losing 5-4 to Josh Palmucci (Kingsway).
Council Rock South rode the points of three-medalists, the most of any SOL, as the host’s Lucas Doyle defaulted to CR North’s Aiden Roe at 215-pounds, and had to settle for 8th place. The Golden Hawks’ Bekhruz Sadriddinov took 5th in a studly 152-pound weight class, winning 6-4 over Christian Brothers Academy’s Tyler Barrett. CR North’s Erin Sement continued to impress, finishing 6th at 106-pounds.
ETR returned with great fury, as many of the nation’s best scholastic grapplers returned to Council Rock South for a great performance. As always, the Golden Hawks wrestling community pulled it off, and all is well as we wrestle into 2022.
Big Red Duals at Souderton:
The host Indians performed well in their own duals going 2-2 on Saturday, beating Downingtown East 43-28 and the SOL’s Neshaminy 42-32. Neshaminy was also 2-2 on the day as they took down Plymouth-Whitemarsh 39-28 and Downingtown West 38-35.
Pennsbury fared the best of all the SOL teams, dropping a narrow 37-31 dual to D1 power Garnet Valley in the consolation championship finishing fourth overall at this annual event that has turned into one of the better dual tourney’s in Eastern Pennsylvania. Saucon Valley (the AA #1 ranked team by PA-Power) won the title with a 55-15 dismantling of Spring-Ford. Pennsbury waffled Wissahickon 70-4 and handled PW 41-24. North Penn and Wissahickon also picked up two wins, going 2-2 as well. These duals, and some of last weeks’ dual results (Pennridge 30-29 over CB East) have shaken up both some SOL team rankings, and District One implications with the D1 Team Championships on the horizon. Especially, with Spring-Ford’s impressive win over Garnet Valley 42-25.
