OXFORD, PA-The Quakertown Panthers jumped out to an early lead in the team standings at Oxford H.S. Friday night at the PIAA Southeast Regional Wrestling Individual Championships, advancing five grapplers to the semifinals.  With all SE Region qualifiers still in action Saturday morning (9:30am start-first round consolation matches), Quakertown has a slim 59 to 52.5 lead over Council Rock South in the team race.  The competition for this team title will be tight throughout the day and evening as both SOL teams battle to capture the Regional title.  Quakertown edged the Golden Hawks last Saturday at the District One East Sectional for the team title.

The Q-town trio of Mason Ziegler (120), Todd McGann (126) and Colin Gaj (132) continue to roll along the road to Hershey.  They are joined by Zach Borzio (145) and big man Frederick Retter (285) in the semifinals.  Panther Gavin Carroll impressed as well with a preliminary round win over North Penn’s Michael Cliver, scoring bonus points for the team with a fall in 4:45.

CR South will counter with five of their own semifinalists in Luke Reitter (106), Mo (145) and Bek (152) Sadriddinov, Matt Colajezzi (160) and Lucas Doyle at 215-pounds.  The wrestle-backs will be the key for both teams in the scoring for a title run.  Lacking head to head in the semis, there should be some good ones down below in the brackets as the tourney unfolds.  Which means each point will count, and bonus points will be at a premium.

Other SOL semifinalists include CR North’s Eren Sement at 106-pounds who is on a mission to capture his first Regional title.  Teammate Tony Burke joins him at 113, with Cole Coffin (Pennridge) in the lower half of the bracket.  The Rams’ Sam Kuhns is in at 126 as well.  Souderton’s Erick Dominguez has a rematch with PV’s Kelly Kakos in one 138-pound semi.  Mo Sadriddinov will tangle with Abington’s Shane Kibler in another finals’ rematch from a week ago at 145.  CB East’s Mason Stein (152) & Quinn Collins (189) are in, and Stein will wrestle NP’s William Morrow.  215-pounder from CB West Carl DiGiorgio is the lone Buck in the semis.
