Stanton Named Athletic Director at Souderton

The hiring of Dennis Stanton as the new athletic director at Souderton Area High School was approved at Thursday night’s school board meeting. He replaces Tom Quintois, who assumed a similar position at Lansdale Catholic High School.

For Stanton, it is his second go round at Souderton. From 2010-12, he served as the boys’ varsity basketball coach and also was an English teacher at the high school.

“Dennis was fantastic English teacher and basketball coach here for two years,” Principal Sam Varano said. “He’s a class act - he’s a motivator, he’s a great communicator and has just a tremendous value system.

“I can’t think of anybody who would be a better role model than Dennis. He’s also very bright, and his enthusiasm and passion for helping others are going to be a real asset to our athletic department.”

From 2012-14, Stanton was a professor and also served as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Ursinus College. He is the founder and director of Every Level Basketball, LLC, an instructional skill development business for players of all ages, but he was eager to return to Souderton.

“My time here at Souderton was amazing,” Stanton said. “I was fortunate enough to work for a great administration and work with amazing teachers and coaches.

“After leaving, it was something that I missed, and the culture and community and also the student body is something that I was excited to get back into but also work for an administrative team that I respect the way they do things there.”

A graduate of Ursinus College where he was a first team Academic All-American and first team All-American, Stanton was a professional basketball player in Europe from 2004-08.

One of his first orders of business as the new athletic director will be to hire a new boys’ varsity basketball coach.

“He’s been on the job a week, and he’s doing fantastically,” Varano said. “What he brings is an outstanding network in the athletic arena in this region, and he has built that network.

“Anybody you ever talk to respects him tremendously. He’s largely built that network through his basketball playing and through his basketball coaching here, Ursinus and his own business of developing basketball players. He just has a network of resources, namely human resources, to rely upon to help our program.”
