PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Sterling Limo SOL Player of the Week
Nyfease West, North Penn –
On a night that saw North Penn deliver 14 tackles for a loss, the Knights’ junior free safety was key in preventing the Falcons from breaking the big play. West had 11 tackles to lead the defense in North Penn’s 24-21 win over Pennsbury. He also ran for 71 yards and two touchdowns.

Coach Dick Beck says:  “Anybody that’s scouted Pennsbury has seen long run after long run, especially by Snorweah. Our game plan was to keep Nyfease in the middle of the field, and his job was - if somebody broke one, he was the tackler. I don’t think they had a run longer than 15 or 18 yards. Nyfease had 11 tackles at safety, and every time they had a kid break, he didn’t get very far because Nyfease brought him to the ground immediately. He kept us in the game because if he misses one tackle, it’s seven points.
“You figure the combination of the kicker (Matt Ammendola) kicking it out of the end zone and making them go 80 yards and then not giving up the long run – their first drive was 17 plays, and they scored a touchdown. They had to convert two third downs that we missed tackles on, or they would have had to punt. I didn’t think they would be able to do that the entire game, so we kept telling Nyfease, ‘Tackle with your head up. Don’t miss any tackles. You’re going to be our safety net.’ I thought he played by far his best game of the year.”

Sterling Limo Offensive Player of the Week
Nafeese Nasir, Plymouth Whitemarsh –
The Colonials’ running back had 308 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries in PW’s 37-24 win over Hatboro-Horsham. Nasir is averaging over 100 yards a game this season.
Coach Dan Chang says:  “Nafeese had a terrific game running the ball. Any time you rush for over 300 yards, the offensive line had to play well, but Nafeese was able to turn a few 10-yard gains into 50 and 60-yard touchdowns. He has a great ability to make people miss and really did a nice job of that on Friday night in some really small spaces. I thought it was also the toughest he ran this season as he broke many arm tackles. He understands the game extremely well and knows how the defense will react to our blocking.”

Sterling Limo Defensive Player of the Week
Hunter Nice, Quakertown  –
The senior linebacker was the defensive catalyst in Quakertown’s 19-7 win over Council Rock South. Nice has been the cornerstone of a Panther defense that has allowed an average of less than 10 points a game through eight games.
Coach George Banas says:  “Game speed for a high school player is incredible. He has a nose for the football and creates big plays defensively. He does a lot of film study during the week and is very prepared mentally for the games. He carries himself as a leader and is surrounded by a great supporting cast. He just does things on a football field that you can’t coach.”
