Sterling Limo Players of the Game (Wk 7)

Sterling Limousine and Transportation Services of Wrightstown is proud to recognize the Players of the Game for SOL teams that are part of each week’s SuburbanOneSports.com’s Featured Games.

NESHAMINY at COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH (CR South 41, Neshaminy 17)
Sterling Limousine Offensive Player of the Game – CR South’s Anthony Alimenti
Rock North’s senior running back rushed for 139 yards on nine carries. Included were touchdown runs of 29 and 55 yards.
CR South coach Vince Bedesem says:  “Most of the time we did not flip flop our halfbacks in Friday’s game, so he was getting some of the calls to his side as far as our option game is concerned, and he just does a great job when he gets outside. It reminds me of the old days when I watched my dad’s teams play and how disciplined they were getting outside and staying in their pitch path. Anthony just does it very, very well. When we brought this offense to South, it has taken a long, long time for our running backs to really understand that when they get option plays like that, you want to stay outside. You don’t want to cut inside and be a scat back, you don’t want to be a cut-across-the-grain kind of guy – we’ll give you other plays for that. When we run our option, Anthony does a great job. All of our backs – Christian Crane, Ryan Hickey and Cameron Crosley - do a super job of getting outside and knowing that’s where they need to be and that’s where it’s going to open up for us.”

Sterling Limousine Defensive Player of the Game – CR South’s Ryan Hickey
The senior captain is the quarterback of the Golden Hawks’ defense from his free safety position. Hickey was a catalyst in a Rock South defensive unit that contained a dangerous Redskin squad in Friday’s win.
CR South coach Vince Bedesem says:  “Ryan’s always at the ball, and he sets us up back there in our free safety position. He just does a fabulous job of being a presence in the run game yet he still has the wherewithal to be back in that umbrella coverage that we like. It really, really helps us that we don’t have to make certain coverage calls to put our free safety in certain positions because Ryan has developed the ability to be able to do that for us. It goes miles for us as far as our scheme is concerned. He’s like a quarterback on defense, which is great.”

Sterling Limousine Special Teams Players of the Game – CR South’s Andrew Cohen & Austin Fizel
Cohen – a standout on the defensive line – blocked a punt and then recovered the punt in the second half of Friday’s game. Fizel took over the kickoff duties in Friday’s game. He is also the team’s long snapper on punts and had several tackles.
CR South coach Vince Bedesem says:  “Andrew Cohen blocked the punt, and basically, that was what we call our ‘safe’ punt. We only rush four, and we’re not even really going after the block. Andrew actually had one last year in the same scenario where he blocked a punt on a ‘safe’ call. We tell the kids – once in a while, they see only four guys coming, and sometimes it’s confusion, and sometimes when they only see four guys up there, I’m not going to say they relax, but your awareness is not as high when you only see four guys come, and come he does. He got through and did what he was supposed to do. He took the ball off the kicker’s foot. Again, it just shows what a very, very coachable young man he is, not to mention how dominant he can be on the line of scrimmage. He did a fabulous job defensively.

“Austin has added a new dynamic to our kickoff team. He’s a much bigger kid than Ben Solis is, and we are trying to take a little bit off of Ben’s plate. To be doing all the kicking Ben does, it would wear anybody down. We’re able to better our team as far as getting a different body on the field. Austin has just done a great job of filling in for Ben, and we’re able to interchange both of them on the kickoffs. On our punts, he’s our long snapper, and he’s one of the first guys down there covering kicks, and he made a big hit early in the game, which was nice.”

PENNSBURY at ABINGTON (Abington 20, Pennsbury 7)
Sterling Limousine Offensive Player of the Game – Abington’s Chris Ruhl
The senior tight end was a key contributor on an offensive line that paved the way for the Ghosts’ ground game that accumulated 266 yards in Friday’s win.
Abington coach Tim Sorber says:  “Chris is the catalyst to our run game. We run a lot of plays off tackle and sweeps around the end. Chris is so well respected by the other players on the team, and even at tight end, he makes all of our line calls, and he has great hands and can make plays in our passing game.”

Sterling Limousine Defensive Player of the Game – Abington’s Miles Grasty
The Ghosts’ senior linebacker was the catalyst on a defensive unit that limited the Falcons to just 87 yards on the ground and 118 totals yards for the game.
Coach Tim Sorber says:  “Myles played lights out – he must have had 15 or 16 tackles against a very good football team. We have a lot of confidence in our defense, and Myles is a big reason why we have that confidence.”
