PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Sterling Limo SOL Player of the Week
Rob Burns, Quakertown –
The senior running back was unstoppable in the Panthers’ 48-32 win over Council Rock North, a win that gave Quakertown sole possession of the SOL Continental Conference crown. Burns ran for 321 yards and six touchdowns in a contest that saw the Panthers accumulate 407 yards on the ground and 630 yards of total offense. Burns had TD runs of 62, 55, 12, nine, five and three yards.

Coach George Banas says:  “Rob is an extremely hard worker, and it has really paid off for him this season.  He does not get the press as much as a Josh Adams or Joe Unangst, but I put him in that group. The reason for that is we have so many weapons on offense, and he does not get the 30-40 carries a game. But he did on Saturday, and he took full advantage of it. It was a record for most rushing yards in a game and tied the record for most touchdowns in a game.  Not only is Rob a great runner with exceptional vision, but he is also one of our best blocking backs in our backfield.  One last thing about Rob is he always credits his teammates and the program.  He is just an all-around Quakertown Football player!”

Sterling Limo Offensive Player of the Week
Josh Abrams, Upper Moreland –
With Springfield-Montco keying on running back Tyler Whitmore, the Golden Bears’ senior quarterback picked up the slack. Abrams accounted for four touchdowns in the Bears’ 25-20 win over the Spartans – two in the air and two on the ground. He had 101 yards rushing and also threw for 129 yards.
Coach Adam Beach says:  “He’s a hard working, intelligent young man. Springfield did a nice job of trying to take away Tyler. With what we were running, Josh was given the opportunity to make some runs and make some throws, and he made the plays we needed on offense for us to get the win. When a team is trying to stop 21 (Whitmore), it’s nice to know the quarterback is able to distribute the ball to other people and take it himself, score and put points on the board and give us a chance to win. When he was running so well, it was hard not to give Josh the ball. It was working, it was clicking, and like I told the team – ‘This is like playoff football. We’re going to go with what helps us win. If we have to win giving Tyler the ball, we’re going to do that. If we have to win with Josh doing what he does, we’re going to do that, or if someone else steps up, that’s what we have to do to win the game, and that’s what we’re going to do.’”

Sterling Limo Defensive Player of the Week
Jack Rapine, Upper Dublin  –
The junior linebacker had five sacks and one caused fumble in an overpowering performance in Upper Dublin’s 41-21 win over Hatboro-Horsham. He also had an interception.
Coach Bret Stover says:  “Jack flat out is a playmaker. He is always around the football. Jack has a tremendous desire to get to the football. He is one of the most athletic linebackers I’ve ever seen. Last Friday night, despite being double and triple blocked, Jack managed five saves, an interception and a forced fumble.”
