PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Sterling Limo Player of the Week
Shamar Edwards, North Penn –
The senior running back had a career night in North Penn’s 35-21 win over Downingtown West in a District One 6A semifinal. Edwards, who was unstoppable, had 318 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries in a stellar showing. He was equally impressive on the defensive side of the football. In what might well have been a game-saving play, he knocked the ball loose on a pass in the end zone that prevented the Whippets from taking a two-touchdown lead. The ball wound up in the hands of teammate Kaleem Corbin, whose interception gave the Knights possession.
Coach Dick Beck says:  “Shamar had a game for the ages, not just offensively but defensively. He had eight tackles and four assists, and he had the game-sealing interception and obviously the big play in the end zone. He was just amazing in the game. It’s a credit to him and all the hard work he put into it.
“Offensively, I thought the line did a very nice job blocking up with their guys, and he does an outstanding job reading the hole. We don’t really give him a hole to run to, we tell him to find the hole, read the tackle’s block, and when the tackle kicked the guy out, he went downhill. When he could get to the corner, he got to the corner, and he was making people miss, running through arm tackles and getting that extra yard every time. When there wasn’t a hole there, he lowered his shoulder and got three or four yards and was always going forward, and that was huge.”

Sterling Limo Offensive Player of the Week:
Lucas Roselli, Upper Dublin – The senior running back led the Flying Cardinals with 145 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries in Upper Dublin’s 40-7 rout of Unionville in a District One 5A semifinal game. He also had a pair of receptions, including a 60-yard touchdown.
Coach Bret Stover says:  “He had some injuries early in the season, but he’s back 100 percent now and peaking at the right time. His vision is exceptional, and he’s holding onto the football. He is finishing his runs, and he’s making people miss. He’s doing everything you’d hope your running back would do at this time of year.”

Sterling Limo Defensive Player of the Week
Julian White, North Penn – The senior standout was a factor on both sides of the football in North Penn’s 35-21 win over Downingtown West. White lined up at fullback on offense and blocked for Shamar Edwards’ big night. He also found himself in a new position on defense – playing linebacker – where he repeatedly came up big.
Coach Dick Beck says:  “It was only Julian’s second game linebacker, and he had seven tackles, five assists and was really a force on the defensive end for us. He really sucked it up and did a great job blocking at the fullback position on all Shamar’s runs.”

Sterling Limo Special Teams Player of the Week
John Kohlbrenner, Upper Dublin – The sophomore standout had another blocked punt, and this one led to a touchdown return by Jason Scott in Upper Dublin’s 40-7 win over Unionville. He also had a spectacular downing of a punt inside the Unionville five-yard line, batting the ball back to prevent it from going into the end zone for a touchback and forcing Unionville to begin its drive at the two-yard line. Kohlbrenner also caught a key 16-yard pass in the second quarter to set up a Mike Slivka touchdown run.
Coach Bret Stover says:  “He’s had quite a special teams year for us. He’s had a couple of touchdowns in the offense as well. Johnny is an exceptional player. He’s got speed, and he just always seems to have a nose to be around the ball. He had a huge interception against Cheltenham the first time we met them and made a heck of a play there. On Saturday, he was coming off the edge, and he had a play early in the game where the punter stopped and Johnny ran by him. On the second one, the punter tried to do the same thing, and Johnny reached back and put his hand right on the ball as the kid kicked it. We had one guy miss it, and the second guy – Jason Scott – came and picked it up and ran it into the end zone. It was 20-0 at the point, and that made it 26-0.”
