The Flying Cardinals keep making history, picking up the program’s first ever state playoff win in their first appearance in states. They seized control of Wednesday’s state opener from the outset. Michael Mullen put the Cards on the scoreboard at the 10:28 mark, using an Evan Scott assist. By the time the period had ended, the Cardinals had a 6-0 lead, but they suffered a setback when Mullen – who had a pair of goals – was injured.
Upper Dublin led 7-2 at the intermission, and the Eagles – who scored just one goal in the second half - never threatened as the Cardinals rolled to the win.

In addition to Mullen’s two goals, Michael Sowers led the attack with three goals and two assists. Nick Vernacchio, Conor Wall and Evan Scott each contributed a single goal. Wall and Scott both had one assist.
Jack Rapine had another big game, finishing with 10 ground balls and three caused turnovers. Ryan Templeton had four ground balls while Ben Abel and Michael Gillen each had three.

Sophomore goalie Dillon Lojeski was credited with 12 saves in a strong outing.

Upper Dublin (21-2, 14-0 SOL) will face Strath Haven in a second round game on Saturday. District One’s fourth place team rolled to a 14-4 win over District 11 champion Southern Lehigh in a first round contest.
