Kellie McGoldrick, according to Ben Winderman, represents everything that is good about Hatboro-Horsham soccer. “If we had a poster for Hatters’ soccer the last four years, Kellie would be on it,” the Hatboro coach said. “She gets the most out of herself athletically, and she has to work hard for it. She’s not fast and dynamic athletically, so she has to be smart and she has to be focused. I’m just so impressed with her consistency this year.” Beyond her contributions on the soccer field, McGoldrick, according to her coach, is a high character person. “She’s one of those kids who would do anything for anyone,” Winderman said. “She’ll score the game-winning goal, and then she’s the one carrying the water jug. She’s good to everyone on the team. She stays late, gets there early. In this day and age where some of the good players are some of the toughest ones to deal with, she’s just a delight.”

McGoldrick, a four-year starter and veteran of the club circuit, is the captain of this year’s Hatter squad that finished behind only Pennridge in the Continental Conference standings. The central midfielder has scored seven goals, including a pair of game winners. “It’s become her team,” Winderman said. “She’s become more comfortable in the role of senior leader. She does anything that we ask, and against the best players in the league, she’s consistently outperformed them.”

On April 5, McGoldrick made a verbal commitment to accept a soccer scholarship to the University of New Hampshire. She is undecided on a major but leaning toward business.

Jack Felt is a co-captain of this year’s SOL National Conference championship cross country team. According to his coach, he’s like having an assistant coach. “I can count on him,” coach Dave Marrington said. “I know he’ll get practice started if I’m not there right away. He makes sure the warm-up is going properly. He’s one of the better captains we’ve had. The kids like him, but he also gets a lot out of the kids.” A former sprinter, Felt went out for cross country in 10th grade as a way to get in shape for winter track. Last spring, he specialized in the 800 and 4x400 relay, and this summer he committed himself to becoming a distance runner as well. In June and July, Felt was pounding out 40-50 miles a week. In August, that number jumped to 70. “That’s a lot of mileage, especially for a guy that was running 200 meters,” Marrington said. “He’s doing a real good job for us.”

This year, Felt was Rock North’s fifth runner until an injury set him back. An unselfish runner who takes as much interest in his teammates as in himself, Felt praised his fellow runners for turning in an undefeated season. “I’m proud of the kids that step up like Mac Emery, James Zingarini and Ross Wilson,” he said. “They’ve been doing really well this season and been consistent. Zack Keller started working extremely hard and stepping up big time for us.”

Felt is looking at Lock Haven, Millersville and Shippensburg where he plans to major in physical therapy.
