Amber McAteer excels on the track and in the classroom and is also a student leader.  The Upper Merion senior was the American Conference cross country champion as both a sophomore and junior. She opened the 2011 season by capturing second in the CB East Invitational, but beyond that, the senior captain is the consummate teammate. “She’s a very team-oriented person,” coach Matt Collins said. “After she finishes a race, she’s the first one to try to get back on the course and root on her teammates that finish later.”

In the classroom, McAteer – a member of the National Honor Society - is taking five AP classes this year. “She’s very academic,” Collins said. “She was born with some ability, but she works very hard in everything she does, which is what’s so impressive about her. Whether it’s calculus class or running extra laps, she’s very determined.” McAteer is class secretary and a member of the student council. She is vice president of the French Club and is a member of the community service club, the model UN and the ecology club.

McAteer, who hopes to continue running in college, plans to major in biology/pre-med. Colleges she is considering include Towson, American, James Madison and Johns Hopkins.

Univest’s SuburbanOneSports.com Featured Male Athlete (Week of Sept. 14, 2011)

Josh Bernard is, according to his coach, ‘everybody’s All-American.’ “The Central Bucks East senior is the quarterback and a captain of the Patriots’ football team. He has been the team’s floor general since midway through his sophomore season.  In week one of the 2011 season, he singlehandedly accounted for more than 300 yards of offense – 230 in the air and 80 more on the ground. “He’s a dynamic player,” coach John Donnelly said. “He really knows the offense well, and he’s a key for us. He’s a vocal leader when he needs to be, and he’s also a lead-by-example kind of guy. He’s a great kid. He’s involved in the school, he’s a high character kid, he’s a high academic kid, and he’s productive on the football field. If you were looking for somebody you’d want your son to grow up and be – Josh Bernard would be it.”  This year he is playing both ways for the Patriots, seeing action also at free safety.

Bernard is a 4.0 student despite a course load that includes AP Biology, AP Stat and AP Macroeconomics. The East senior has his sights set on becoming a doctor and is shadowing a pulmonologist at Doylestown Hospital for his senior project.
