Univest Recognizes Souderton Featured Athletes

Univest Corporation has partnered with SuburbanOneSports.com to recognize close to 500 Univest Featured Athletes over the years. On June 4, 2015, Univest visited Souderton to recognize five of its students. For additional information about the services provided by Univest, please visit the web site: www.Univest.net.

At a special recognition ceremony on June 4, Souderton seniors Matt Bakey, Sarah Derstein, Ali Tomasevich, Ben Wonderling and Morgan Yoder were recognized for their selection as Univest Featured Athletes during the 2014-15 school year.

“This recognition really brings to light some important kids and kids who have done some special things and also this sponsorship and collaboration we have with Univest,” Souderton Athletic Director Tom Quintois said. “We just want to say thank you.”

On behalf of Univest, Kim Detwiler, senior vice president/director of corporate communications, presented certificates of recognition and gift bags to the five student-athletes.

“It’s a real honor to be a sponsor and to be part of this program,” said Detwiler, herself a Souderton graduate and two-sport standout. “There aren’t many things out there that recognize all the hard work and the joint effort of not just what’s on the field but what’s in the classroom as well.

“It’s a true testament to what the students do, and we’d like to thank Suburban One for this opportunity. I’m excited to be here to honor the students.”

SuburbanOneSports.com has recognized close to 500 seniors of high character over the years. It is only through the web site’s longstanding partnership with Univest that it is possible to tell the stories of these remarkable student-athletes.

“At Univest, we firmly believe in giving back to the community,” Detwiler said. “Community is actually one of our core values. For us, what community means is not just writing a check and providing financial support but getting involved in leadership roles and volunteerism.

“I know a lot of these students are real well rounded as well, so it’s a real pleasure to be here. Last year, Univest gave back about $1.2 million to the communities that we serve, and our employees served about 15,500 hours. Of the support that we’ve given, about 50 percent has gone toward education. It’s our number one area of giving. This is why we do what we do.

“We believe that our communities are strong, and in order to have strong, vibrant communities, we need to give back in all those different ways.

“Each of these student-athletes couldn’t be successful if it wasn’t for the support of everyone in the room today – the parents, the grandparents that come to the fields and cheer their students on. We also want to thank you and acknowledge the hard work and effort you’ve put forth all through the years to make these students successful.”
