Upper Merion VB Ties for First at First Kill

The Upper Merion Lady Vikings opened their season with a very successful showing in the First Kill Tournament held in Bethlehem, PA. Upper Merion finished tied for first in the morning pool, splitting with defending Class A State Champion, Marion Catholic, and a very tough Red Lion team. The Lady Vikings swept defending District 3 AA champions, Berks Catholic, in two close sets to advance to the afternoon pool of all first place finishers in the AM pools.

The Lady Vikings duplicated their 4-2 record in the PM pool by sweeping District I rival, Downingtown East and then splitting with both state-ranked Emmaus and defending District I AA champions Pope John Paul. This was good enough to finish in a tie for first with both Emmaus and PJP who also had 4-2 records.

Senior outside hitter Emily Shannon led the team in kills followed by Senior Eryn Brady. Senior Niki Carpenter led the team in blocks while senior libero Ashley Shannon led the team in digs. Senior DS Kailyn McNamee led the team in aces while junior setter Carlye Odorisio led the team in assists.

The defending District I Lady Vikings open their match play at Strath Haven on Tuesday night. Upper Merion, which has won the last seven American Conference titles, will begin defense of those titles at the always tough Hatboro-Horsham Hatters on Thursday night.
