Chris Veal – Stetson University (Football)

Major: Undecided

Final list of colleges:  Stetson, Ursinus, Davidson

Reasons for choosing Stetson:  “I was in contact with their coach a lot, and when I went down to visit. I actually loved the school and the surrounding area. The players that I met were more of what my friends would be like, and I liked the environment down there better. I talked to the coach, and he’s going to play me at wide receiver/slot in the same offense we run up here.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate football?  “I knew I wanted to play a sport in college, but I didn’t know what sport since I played basketball, baseball and football. I knew it wasn’t going to be basketball, so I was down to baseball and football. To play baseball in college, you have to have a really good junior year because by your senior year, you don’t have time.
“Coach Rack worked with me a lot for football, and because he had been at Princeton, he figured maybe he could help me get into college and play football, whether it was D-1 or D-3. With his help, it was easier for me to get into football than baseball.”

Coach Dave Rackovan says:  “Chris has a unique opportunity because this is the first year Stetson is playing football. It’s a whole new program. They’re starting at the Division 1AA level, and it’s interesting because their head coach is my old boss at Princeton. That’s really how he found out about Chris, and I think he’s a real good fit academically and athletically, so it works out for him.
“Chris is very unique because he has great hands. He runs very precise routes, and he’s so competitive. He doesn’t have the blazing speed necessarily that some of the guys have, but he makes up for it in all the other categories. I think that makes him special. He was the leading receiver in the whole area.”
