On July 6, 2012, Norristown senior Steve Waters was recognized at a special news conference for signing a letter of intent to play football at Wagner College.

Major: English with a minor in Secondary Education
Final list of colleges: Wagner, Wilkes, Lebanon Valley
Reasons for choosing Wagner: “The location, the campus was very beautiful and just the feel – when I got on the campus and went on the football field, it just felt like home.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate football? “I started thinking about it my freshman year. My oldest brother played college football, and watching him do it – I knew from when I started in high school what I wanted to do.
“It was very hard because I’m a small kid at my position (offensive line), so actually finding a school that wanted me to play for them at the size I’m currently at and knowing I could get bigger was very difficult. Finding a school that would work around my extra curriculars also was very difficult, but it turned out really well for me.”
Norristown offensive line coach Rod Lusane says: “Being undersized, he really worked hard from his junior year transitioning into his senior year. He really worked on his technique, and he had very good technique. He worked hard in the weight room as well. He really committed himself and did everything we asked of him. He won outstanding lineman as a senior, and that was a great accomplishment for him.
“As a lineman, he positions himself very well. He’s always in the right spot. He does all the little things right. He takes the proper steps, and he’s ‘Mr. Consistent.’ You watch film, and he never gets beat. He did all the right things for us, and he was doing his job.
“On top of that, he’s a student-athlete. He has over a 4.6 GPA, and he exemplifies what a student-athlete is. He is the total package, and that’s what coaches want. They want a kid you can count on and know what they’re going to do in the classroom. To carry that out onto the athletic field is a plus.”
