Robbie Welhaf – Elon University (Baseball)

Reasons for choosing Elon: “It’s always been my dream to play baseball down south. When we visited in November, the campus just kind of blew all the other colleges away.”
What was the progression that led you to playing baseball at the collegiate level? “During my junior summer, I was playing on a travel team, and in the second week of summer, a couple of college coaches came up to me, and that’s when it really started for me.”
Coach Kyle Dennis says: “Robbie is a hard thrower. He’s a big, tall kid, and he’s got the body frame to be a great pitcher. I think that’s what colleges are really looking for from him. He throws the ball hard, and a lot of things came together for him in the summer before his junior year. He impressed some coaches. He worked really hard in the offseason getting command of his pitches.
“We were really lucky this year to have both Robbie and Blair. We felt comfortable putting both of them out. Robbie led the team in strikeouts and was undefeated in league play. He was a first team all-league guy. Everyone on the team had confidence in him, knowing that when he was going out on the mound he was going to give a great effort, he was going to throw the ball hard, and he was going to compete. The guys just had a ton of respect for him and what he could do. He was phenomenal. He met every expectation and exceeded what we expected of him.”
