On Thursday evening October 11, 2012, the Wissahickon Boys varsity water polo team defeated rival North Penn for the second time this season by a score of 12-8.  It was senior night for the Wissahickon teams and the JV boys had set the stage for an exciting game by tying North Penn 11-11.  Earlier this season, the two varsity teams had each defeated the other in close games that came right down to the wire.  Despite the final score of this game, it was another nail-biter.  The first period was a defensive battle ending with the score tied, 0-0.  During the second period, Wissahickon came alive scoring 5 unanswered goals.  At the half, it was Wissahickon 5, North Penn 1.  The third period was a different story.  North Penn came roaring back, scoring 4 goals to Wissahickon's 1.   North Penn had closed the gap and was down by only one goal  at the end of three.  The packed Wissahickon pool was rocking.  The standing room only crowd was cheering on both teams as the fourth period opened. Wissahickon's Luke Waechter scored first on a pass from Eun Bae, giving Wissahickon a two point advantage.  North Penn answered and brought the game back to within one.   Waechter scored again, this time on a set up from Greg Beyer.  Once again, North Penn responded.  Now it was Eun Bae's turn.  He scored on a pass from senior teammate Brad Jones.  Once again, North Penn scored.  The clock was winding down and there were only a few minutes left to go.  Wissahickon drives on offense and North Penn was defending well until Greg Beyer lofted a lob shot just over the outstretched arms of of the North Penn goalie.  The Wissahickon crowd went wild !!. Within the next minute, Greg Beyer stole the ball, broke away from his defender, and scored again!.  North Penn tried to rally, but Mac Henessey stopped their last shot.  Wissahickon  worked the ball down the pool where Billy McFarland fired the ball into the North Penn net.  Game over.  THIS IS WATER POLO!
