Wissahickon Boys Water Polo vs. LaSalle - (10-21-14)

On October 21, 2014, the LaSalle Explorers boys water polo team came to Wissahickon for the second conference match-up between these teams.  LaSallle came out on top in game one a few weeks ago at the Hill School in Pottstown.  This time was different. Wissahickon  beat the  visiting Explorers by a score of 9-8 in an exciting game, their final regular season conference game.  Senior starter Dany Knoll returned to Wissahickon’s line up from his broken nose and set the tone by winning the opening swim off for the Trojans. The first period saw back and forth action.  Jake Berring scored the first goal for Wissahickon during the opening period. LaSalle  came roaring back scoring two in a row.  David McFarland and Jake Berring added two more for the  Trojans and the period ended with Wissahickon on top by one. The second period was just as close.  Both teams scored twice and the half ended. with Wissahickon maintaining its slight advantage, 5-4.  During the third period, the Trojan boys came alive.  Jake Berring scored again.  Senior Ben Tumulo  made three beautiful passes to set up three  goals by Freshman Tim DeMarinis. Tim’s third goal was an amazing shot from the point as time was nearly expiring in the third period and stunned the LaSalle goalie.  The Wissahickon fans went nuts! At the end of three, Wissahickon lead 9 to 5.  That is not, however, the end of the story.  LaSalle scored twice in the early part of the fourth period to close within two.  Wissahickon’s offense could not seem to find the net.  You could cut the tension in the stands “with a knife”. In the end, a solid effort by the Trojan defense held the LaSalle offense to a total of three goals in the final period and Wissahickon came out on top by one.  This victory kept the Trojan boys’ playoffs hopes alive.

Notable game stats:  Jake Berring 4 goals and 5 steals; David McFarland, 2 goals; Tim DeMarinis, 3 goals, 6 steals, 1 assist; Ben Tumulo, 4 assists; Steven McFarland 4 steals; Jeff  Beyer, 4 steals.
