Jeff Yasalonis – Mount Olive College (Volleyball)
Major: Accounting
Final list of colleges: Mount Olive, Brigham Young, George Mason
Reasons for choosing Mount Olive: “They are a really good up and coming program, and it honestly came down to money. They gave me an offer I couldn’t refuse, and they also gave me an opportunity to play.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate volleyball? “I started playing in eighth grade for my club team. When I started in ninth grade at the high school, I kind of stuck with it. I started playing with Yorktowne Volleyball Club, and the commitment level I had to volleyball – I knew I wanted to do it in college. I stuck with it the whole time, and now I’m here.
“I want to thank (coach Justin) Fee. He stayed with me and taught me how to play the game, understanding both sides of the court.”
Coach Justin Fee says: “The setter position, in particular, is the most important on the court, and the fact that he is so good, so high level and so smart a player – he can take brand new players or maybe average to good players and make them a lot better than they really are just on the speed of his offense that he’s going to be running. The consistency of his sets allows inexperienced players to come along a lot faster than normal. We may be anticipating a down year, but by the middle to end of the year, we’re going to look totally different because we have such an experienced kid like Jeff.”
