NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS FOR SOL PROSPECTS

By Gary Silvers

Happy New Year!

As we enter 2016, it’s time for Suburban One League prospects to make some New Year’s resolutions.

Here are 10 do’s and don’ts to consider:

DO’S

1. Get on the recruiting radar as early as possible.

2. Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center as soon as possible.

3. Raise your GPA as high as possible.

4. Take and retake the SAT and/or ACT as soon as possible.

5. Ask somebody to shoot and/or reshoot fresh video of you.

6. Communicate regularly with college coaches.

7. Answer all of your emails from college coaches.

8. Try to create competition among college coaches.

9. Consider out-of-state as well as in-state colleges.

10. Visit college campuses.

DON’TS

1. Wait until your junior or senior year of high school to start the recruiting process.

2. Try to navigate the recruiting process alone.

3. Think college coaches will find you if you’re good enough to play.

4. Think college coaches will discover you at camps, tournaments and showcases.

5. Limit your options to NCAA Division I and II universities.

6. Limit your options to schools close to home.

7. Depend entirely on high school or club coaches to get you recruited.

8. Think talent alone will get you offers.

9. Settle for only one offer.

10. Choose a school strictly for athletics.

Want to play college sports? National Scouting Report, the world’s oldest and largest college recruiting organization, receives dozens of requests each week from college coaches seeking qualified high school prospects (2016-19). More than 95 percent of NSR’s prospects receive scholarship offers.
