What to Watch For

Thirty-one local teams will be competing in Sunday’s Play by Play Classic at Jefferson University (formerly Philadelphia University). Radnor, Merion Mercy, Episcopal Academy, North Penn, Neshaminy, Germantown Academy, Bonner-Prendergast, Cardinal O’Hara, Archbishop Wood, Neumann-Goretti, Souderton, Perkiomen Valley, Archbishop Ryan, Boyertown, and West Chester Rustin will be featured on Court 1, while Gwynedd Mercy, Friends Central, Archbishop Carroll, St Basil, Notre Dame, Mount St. Joseph, Penn Charter, Springside Chestnut Hill, Council Rock North, Imhotep, Upper Dublin, Central Bucks West, Garnet Valley, Springfield (D), Shipley and Abington Friends play on Court 2.

Key match-ups at the all-day event include Central Bucks West vs Garnet Valley, Perkiomen Valley vs Archbishop Ryan, Neumann-Goretti vs Souderton and Archbishop Wood vs Sanford.

At 11-0, Garnet Valley sits second in the current District 1 Class 6A power rankings and could pose problems for the 6-5 Bucks.

Perkiomen Valley’s presence in the paint with the tandem of Meg Jonassen and Taylor Hamm will be a challenge for Archbishop Ryan, who have an excellent roster of guards.

The Saints of Goretti will be a tough opponent for Souderton, but should be a good District 12 vs District 1 game.

Sanford, the number-one ranked team in Delaware recently lost to Germantown Academy, while the Vikings dropped a Catholic League contest to Neumann-Goretti. The match-up could be a nice bounce back win for Wood.

Games on Sunday start at 8:30 a.m. with the last one of the day beginning at 8:30 p.m.
