On Monday, May 23, 2022, Abington seniors Bryanna Bailkin & Samantha Castorino were recognized for committing to compete in cheer at Kutztown University.

Reasons for choosing Kutztown: “Just the size of the campus, the friendly environment, and it’s close to home, so I can still come home when I want to.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in cheer at the collegiate level? “I started doing gymnastics for about 14 years of my life, and when I entered junior high, I thought, ‘They don’t have a gymnastics program’ so I did cheer, and I fell in love with the sport instantly. It was like ‘If I can’t cheer in college, there’s nothing else I want to be doing.’”
Coach Krystin Baron says: “Bryanna transferred in as a sophomore, but basically, I’ve seen her since the beginning. Something that really stood out to me was her ability not to be afraid of anything. She throws some really incredible tumbling passes, which has been an asset to our team. They’re both very strong athletes, and I’m sad that they’ll be moving on but excited for what college brings them.”

Reasons for choosing Kutztown: “I just loved the campus and the programs they offer, and the cheer team is just amazing.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in cheer at the collegiate level? “I have had cheer competitions at Kutztown, and I started to follow them on social media as well. Just seeing their achievements – I really liked their team, and I knew they would be a good fit for me.”
Coach Krystin Baron says: “I’ve known Sammy since freshman year. She’s just a genuine, spirited person. She’s everyone’s best friend. She works super hard. In cheerleading, you’re an individual, but you also have to be a part of the team, and she’s both of those.”
