Breanna Bermel – Ithaca College (Basketball)

College talk:  Bre’s other choice for playing college basketball was Elmira. She also was interested in Temple and Penn State for her academic pursuits.

The scoop:  Bree was a key part of the SOL National Conference champions. In Bre’s junior and senior seasons, the Lady Ghosts advanced to the PIAA Class AAAA quarterfinals. Bre’s best individual performances were 19 points against Harry S Truman and 18 against Pocono Mountain in the opening round of the 2014 PIAA playoffs.

Most memorable moment at Abington:  “Having dance battles on the bus rides home.”

Favorite class:  AP Biology and Anatomy

Career:  Orthopedic Surgeon

Most played song on iPod:  “Lisztomania” by Phoenix

People might be surprised to know:  “I’m a terrible dancer but will dance anyway.”

Coach Dan Marsh says:  “Bre is probably one of the smartest, most articulate kids I’ve ever coached. She not only led by example, but she led by speaking out and always questioning things in a positive way. As she got older, she got better basketball-wise.
“She had a great year this year. She really found her own niche and was able to score when she needed to score, rebound when she needed to rebound. It’s kind of tough when you have Deja (Rawls) and Lizzie (O’Leary) - she was not in the spotlight but did a lot of good work for us. Last year in the state tournament, she had 18 against Pocono Mountain West. She had a couple of big scoring games this year. She’s a great kid.”
