Camryn Lexow – University of Virginia (Soccer)

Major:  Criminal Justice/Global Studies

Final list of colleges:  UVA, Clemson, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, West Virginia

Reasons for choosing UVA:  “Top academic/athletic school, the girls were welcoming, and the coaches are a good connection to play professionally. (UVA) plays at a high level (against) great competition.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level?  “When I joined my club team, FC PA Strikers, I knew I wanted to play in college. My coaches, Jim McLoughlin and Dave Shaw, helped me in the recruiting process. We attended many showcase tournaments, playing in regionals and also national championships. Colleges started e-mailing my coaches about me. (The recruiting process) started in about eighth grade/ninth grade.”

Coach Rick Tompkins says:  “Camryn is the best soccer player that I’ve had since I’ve been here. She has the skill set, for sure, but she works very hard. There’s a lot of hard work that goes into (scoring goals). She practices a lot, she’s blessed with athletic ability, and she makes the most of it, and she’s tough. She’s a lot tougher than you would think. She makes things happen that other girls don’t even see, and she’s got the skill to execute it, so she’s like an extra coach on the field. I can’t say enough about her, and she’s totally humble on top of everything else. She’s well liked by her teammates and a good leader.”
