Britney James – Delaware State University (Basketball)

Major: Sociology & Criminal Justice

Final list of colleges: Delaware State, Millersville, Penn State Abington, Sacred Heart, St. Joe’s

Reasons for choosing Delaware State:  “I always wanted to go to an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) and play basketball. When I went to visit, the atmosphere and the vibe there was just good, and they had the major I want.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in basketball at the collegiate level?  “I always wanted to play at a competitive level in college, and it started to become a reality last year in my AAU season.”

Coach Dan Marsh says:  “Britney had a great career for us. She was a four-year player, a three-year starter, and was part of four 20-win seasons. She became a tremendous leader and really grew as a person. She’s one of the few kids that can say she played in two district championship games, which I’m not sure a lot of kids can say.
“Britney was very unselfish. She went through a time where she felt she should score more, but she knew it could possibly hurt our team if she did, and she didn’t. She continued to tow the line and make everybody better and sacrifice herself. More importantly, Britney was a great leader, and we wish her the best of luck at Delaware State.”
