Abington's Reed Signs to Play FB at Temple

On Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, Abington senior George Reid was recognized for signing a letter of intent to continue his football career at Temple University.

George Reid – Temple University (Football)

Major:  Business Management

Final list of colleges:  Temple, Morgan State

Reasons for choosing Temple:  “Temple was really the choice because it was close to home. I liked the education, and I liked where their program was headed the last couple of years. I talked to the new coach. He’s a very personable guy, so I enjoy the whole new staff.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in football at the collegiate level?  “I always thought that it could happen. I just needed to push myself hard enough and my parents had to push me because I knew I could get the job done and do what I had to do.”

Coach Kevin Conlin says:  “His talent is there, and you can see that with his numbers, but it’s the leadership that he provided with the other kids on the team, being a great teammate and all that kind of stuff - that’s what really sets him apart. His willingness to work hard every single day, to get better every single day, driving other people around him – bringing them up to get to his level – is what makes George special.
“He’s a great kid, and he’s an excellent student. He’s one of those kids who is heavily involved in the Special Olympics. He gives back to the community. He understands his role, he understands his leadership value.
“Having George on the team as a first-year coach made the transition so much easier. I wasn’t really given the head coaching position until February, so George and the other captains – Barry Johnson, Isaiah Cruz and Tom Penecale – really kept the team together, which really highlights what kind of a person he is. It’s not about him, it’s about us.”
