Rorie Spencer – Virginia Commonwealth University (Track)

Major:  Psychology

Final list of colleges:  VCU, Eastern Michigan, Rider

Reasons for choosing VCU:  “I chose VCU because I felt comfortable there, and I felt like I could excel. The coaching staff and the team were really welcoming, and I just loved the environment.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in track at the collegiate level?  “I always was pretty quick, but I had to get better through my coaching. It didn’t really click until indoor states junior year that I had more potential than I was putting forth. I ran the 60-meter dash and placed fifth in the state, and that gave me more confidence.”

Coach Bill Neely says:  “As an athlete, she had the talent because she had participated at a younger age. The talent that she obtained during that process allowed her to get to where she is today. Her personality is infectious because it affects everybody on the team to be better and always wanting to win. That was her motivation – to be one of the best in the state. She probably will be one of the best in the state in the upcoming track meets.”
