Tabatha Almond – Lock Haven University (Field Hockey)

Major: Early Childhood Education/Special Education

Reasons for choosing Lock Haven:  “I chose Lock Haven University because it’s a smaller school. It’s not too far away from home but far enough. I love the campus and the environment of the school. It has an excellent teaching program, and I wanted to play Division One field hockey.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate field hockey?  “My junior year I went to the National Hockey Festival. I got in touch with a couple of schools after that. That’s when I started talking to Lock Haven, and that’s when I decided I wanted to play field hockey in college.”

Favorite high school field hockey memory:  “Traveling to Arizona for the National Field Hockey Festival my junior year. My overall favorite memory is the great coaching staff and my teammates I’ve had the last four years.  We have all grown so close, and we became a family. I will miss high school field hockey so much.”

Coach Lauren Whiteside says: “Tabatha is every coach’s dream.  She is self-motivated, driven and more than dedicated to her team and the sport. She played sweeper her junior year and moved up to playing center mid this past year with ease and confidence. Every time Tab has the ball, I enjoy watching her play. She has unbelievable speed, and she is a very smart player. Tabatha was always ready with her stick down and anticipating the next play. She is a leader by example and was always ready to handle the pressure with excitement and confidence. It was such a pleasure to be able to say that I was her coach.
“Both Bekah and Tabatha are the type of players that can never be replaced or duplicated. They compliment each other and work extremely well with anyone they play with. Lock Haven is getting two amazing athletes and teammates with great work ethic and versatility.”
