Chris Berry – La Salle University (Track)

Major:  Undecided business with a minor in Physical Therapy

Final list of colleges:  La Salle, Penn State, Lehigh, Rider, East Stroudsburg

Reasons for choosing La Salle:  “I went to visit the college, and I really liked the campus. They offered me a really good academic and running scholarship, which really persuaded me.”

What was the progression that led you to compete in track at the collegiate level?  “I started thinking about it after my junior year. I had a really strong junior year and qualified for the state meet. After the state meet, I was getting letters from colleges, and I realized I could run in college.”

Coach Greg Wetzel says:  “Chris qualified for the state championships in cross country his junior and senior years. He also was a District One medalist in the 3200 meter run as a junior and senior as well. This year he also qualified for the state championship meet indoors. He holds our school record in the two-mile run (9:23), and that record is pretty significant because Nick Scarpello went through here, and Nick is going to be a senior at Penn State – he’s in their top five, he’s a star and has run a 4:07 mile, and he wasn’t able to beat that record. That record was held by Tyler Jones before Chris (broke it). Chris is a pretty special athlete.”
