Grace Becker – The College of William & Mary (Track & Field)

Major:  Kinesiology

Final list of colleges:  William & Mary, Middlebury, Cornell, Duke

Reasons for choosing William & Mary:  “I really decided the day before my signing. It was very nerveracking. I was between all of them for a very long time. Eventually, I realized I really loved the team atmosphere there, and I loved everything about the school. They have a really good program for my major, so I decided to go there.”

What was the progression that led you to compete in track at the collegiate level?  “I really always wanted to compete in college, but I didn’t really know if I was going to go D-I or D-III or any of that, but I’ve always wanted to compete collegiately.
“In my junior year when I hit a lot of my peak performances, I realized I do have the potential to compete in college.”

Assistant coach Cardwell Wootten:  “She’s probably one of the hardest workers I have had. I train a lot of different athletes, and Grace definitely is a hard worker. She’s a vegan, so it (presents) a lot of challenges as far as training, but she’s definitely up for the challenge, learning a lot more about her diet and how to lift according to that. She’s very driven. She does every event under the sun. I have to stop her from doing events. She wants to sprint, jump, hurdle, throw, so getting her to relax knowing with her diet and everything you can’t train as hard, you have to recover more. Wanting to do four events every match is tough, but for the most part, we do it, and she is a trooper with it. It’s just amazing. I’ve never seen anyone want to work that hard all the time. It’s definitely a great attribute to have.”
