Ryan Brown – Salisbury University (Lacrosse)

Major:  Undecided/Something in the science field

Final list of colleges:  Salisbury, Richmond, Tufts

Reasons for choosing Salisbury:  “I went into the coach’s office, and you could see all the wins, all the championships, and he said, ‘We have a culture here.’ You have to win every game, and I want to do that this year at East. At Salisbury, you’re always winning championships – 11 championships is incredible. The winningest coach (Jim Berkman) ever in NCAA D1, D2, D3 history is outstanding. Richmond and Tufts also offered science-oriented courses for me, but in the end, I was like – I want to win games, I want to win championships, and I can do that at Salisbury.
(My twin sister Abby and I) always had the idea that we wanted to be close together, a proximity of 50 miles. That was our goal, and we dared to see who would commit first, and the other person would have to go to a school like that or closer to that. When I committed first, I was like, ‘Abby, you have to go here now.’ She went on a visit with me said, ‘All right, I’ll go here.’ It just happened like that, and it was a dream come true really.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level?  “My dad played lacrosse in college, and I always looked up to him. He was my role model, so I was like, ‘I want to do this.’ I always had this idea of playing either football or lacrosse in college. In the end, my brother (Matt) is playing lacrosse in college, and I was like, ‘This seems fun. I want to focus my life and my passion to lacrosse.’ So I quit my sophomore year of football and focused all of my attention – summer, winter, fall and spring – on lacrosse, and I think that’s what helped me get into Salisbury.”

Coach Bruce Garcia says:  “I think the players got it right when they named him co-captain this year. Ryan is definitely a leader, and I don’t think I know of a more dedicated player or student than Ryan. Maybe his brother, who graduated last year. The boy is a difference maker. He’s focused to his sport, and the team this year is definitely revolving around him offensively, along with a few other seniors.”
