Cailey Lever – Drexel University (Field Hockey)

Major:  Health Sciences

Final list of colleges:  Drexel, Lafayette

Reasons for choosing Drexel:  “I chose Drexel because I really love the city atmosphere, and I think it’s going to give me a lot of opportunities that I wouldn’t be able to have anywhere other than a city school.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level?  “Around my sophomore year I made the decision to stop playing lacrosse and focus on field hockey. I actually had been playing lacrosse for my entire life, but I loved field hockey. I think it’s the intelligence it requires. You’re always learning. There’s never a time when there’s nothing else to build upon.”

Coach Meghann Spratt says:  “Cailey is just an overall fierce competitor. Age never mattered. She went out on the field and played like a senior pretty much from the beginning. Her confidence was incredible. She was so coachable and only wanted to be on the field, and that set her apart from a lot of the younger kids that came in intimidated. She rose to the challenge, and year after year just got better and better and better. On and off the field, she was just an incredible leader, and so many of her peers looked up to her. We leaned on her a ton to represent us on the field. She truly was the epitome of a captain.
“I think playing indoor always carries over because it just gives you a quicker stick. I think that was a huge help. Every single time she practiced – she practiced like she played in a game. Not many kids do that, and that also sets a great athlete apart from a typical athlete, and that’s going to help her going into a Division I program. She has a presence every time she’s on the field, she’s so composed, and she’s going to have an impact at Drexel.”
