CB East's Chell Commits to Swim at Ursinus College

On Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, Central Bucks East senior Stephanie Chell was recognized for committing to continue her swimming career at Ursinus College.

Stephanie Chell – Ursinus College (Swimming)

Major:  Biology

Final list of colleges:  Ursinus, Gettysburg, Franklin & Marshall

Reasons for choosing Ursinus:  “I went on overnights to three different colleges, and when I went to Ursinus, I just felt that the team was super close. Everyone was so nice and welcoming, and the coaches are just amazing. I was really looking for that small school aspect.”

What was the progression that led you to swimming at the collegiate level?  “After sophomore year was when I really knew I wasn’t ready to give it up after two more years and that I needed four more years after my senior year.”

Coach Tom Kane says: “She’s just been a fantastic worker and swimmer for four years, and her heart and soul are dedicated to the team. She’s one of our all-time best swimmers and specializes in the 50 and 100 free and 100 breast. She’s been on relays at states. She’s had a tough senior year. She was sick in the middle of January and had to shut down for three meets. She came back in our CB South meet and swam very well after being out of the water for two weeks. She helped get two of our relays qualified for districts and did the best time in the 100 breast all year. Then she came down with a fever and missed the league championships. If you want to use the old cliché – her senior year she’s been snake bitten. It’s been so difficult, but she weathered it.
“I can’t say enough about her. I first became aware of her because her sister swam for us in the early 2000s, and Ashley has been our assistant coach for a few years. I first met Steph when she was in eight and under at Fanny Chapman. Now she’s going on to college, and I can’t be more proud.”
