On Wednesday, May 19, 2021, Tommy Krystkiewicz was recognized for committing to continue his swimming career at Lafayette College.

Tommy Krystkiewicz – Lafyette College (Swimming)

Major: Engineering

Final list of colleges:  Lafayette, TCNJ, Franklin & Marshall, Lehigh, RIT

Reasons for choosing Lafayette:  “The distance – it’s really close compared to RIT which is five hours away. Lafayette is only an hour. The engineering program is really good – you can really succeed with the tools they have there. The swim team was really nice, and I think I’ll really succeed there in swimming. I really got along with the team when I met them.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in swimming at the collegiate level?  “I’ve been swimming since I was about eight years old. I’ve always been really into swimming, I’ve always been really competitive with it, and I kind of knew that I always wanted to swim in college. It’s been a big part of my life, so I’m not sure what I’d do without it.”

Coach Ed Walsh says:  “Tommy swam for us for four years. I took a leave this past year because of COVID. He was the most promising freshman as a freshman. He qualified for districts all four years. In his freshman year, he was the 42nd qualifier and came in 31. He really was a good swimmer. He was a great member of the team, a very nice young man. His junior year he ended up training for states by himself because we had no one else going. His commitment and dedication to his training was phenomenal. He’s really going to be missed, and it’s been an honor and a pleasure to coach him.”
