CB East's Story & Martin to Compete in Collegiate Track & Cross Country

On Friday, March 4, 2022, Central Bucks East seniors Mollie Story & Kelly Martin were recognized for committing to continue their cross country and track careers at the collegiate level.

Kelly Martin – East Stroudsburg (Cross Country/Track & Field)

Major: Nursing

Final list of colleges: ESU, IUP, Bloomsburg

Reasons for choosing East Stroudsburg: “I really loved the campus, and when I did an official visit, all the people I met there were really nice, and the team is like a family community.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in track and cross country at the collegiate level?  “My love for the sport definitely grew in high school because I started off doing field hockey freshman year, and sophomore year I moved to cross country. It’s just a really fun sport, and it’s something I’ve always loved to do.”

Coach Kevin Krail says:  “I’ve trained Kelly since she was a freshman in winter track coming in. You could tell she was a hard worker from the beginning. Grueling practices, but she was always willing to take them on. I awarded her the Beast Award her sophomore year in winter track because she would run through a wall at all times. She was hurt in cross country junior year, came back and was stellar her junior spring season and this year took on the 3,000 and 800 in winter track and was part of the 4x8 that took sixth place.”

Coach Steve Martin says:  “I’ve been part of Kelly’s career in both cross country and track and field. I can say Kelly has grown quite a bit in the sport. She has faced adversity, having setbacks and injuries and keeping a positive mindset and what it takes to train through it and now being besides reactive proactive to facing injuries in that regard. She has been a leader on the team and has always set great examples to underclassmen coming in. She works tremendously hard. It’s been great to have her on the team. I wish her all the best at East Stroudsburg.”

Mollie Story – Sacred Heart University (Cross Country/Track & Field)

Major: Exercise Science on the physical therapy track

Final list of colleges: Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac, Elon, Widener

Reasons for choosing Sacred Heart: “They have a very good DPT (Doctor of Physical Therapy) program. I went for an official visit, and I got to meet the coaches, the team and see all the classrooms. It was a perfect atmosphere.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in cross country and track at the collegiate level?  “I had a really strong season sophomore year and then COVID shut everything down. I realized how much I missed the meets and the team atmosphere and the practices, and it made me figure out that I wanted to do that in college.”

Coach Steve Martin says:  “I coached Mollie all four years in track and three years in cross country. She’s just a tremendous worker and a great asset to the team. She works hard, she has a positive mindset and always wants to do better. She’s a great teammate, and I think what makes her a great teammate is she’s as happy for her teammates’ successes as she is her own. She had a setback junior year with an injury and came back, working harder than ever to get back to where she was, so she knows the work ethic that’s involved in achieving her goals. She’s totally coachable and has just been a pleasure to coach. I know she’ll be a tremendous asset to Sacred Heart.
