Carter Usowski – Ursinus College (Baseball)
Major:
Biology
Final list of colleges:  Ursinus, Dickinson, Bates, Gettysburg
Reasons for choosing Ursinus:  “It was the perfect fit for me with the academics and campus life. When I stayed over for my overnight, it felt like I was already part of the campus.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in baseball at the collegiate level?  “(I started thinking about it) probably when I hit middle school. Just my love of the game – I wanted to continue.”
Coach Kyle Dennis says: “Carter and David were both part of our program as ninth graders and really flourished after a year on the jayvee as ninth graders. Carter is just an unbelievably bright kid. He’s the kind of kid that does whatever you ask. He works incredibly hard in the offseason. He’s probably one of the hardest working guys I’ve had in a number of years coaching. The time he puts in lifting, strength training, doing speed and agility stuff and getting his body right is phenomenal.
“He transitioned from a middle infielder – shortstop – to a third baseman and in a season picked it up incredibly well, incredibly easily. He’s a third baseman. He does a great job at that position - he’s hard nosed, he’s tough, he’s not afraid to get in front of a hard-hit ball, knock it down and make a play. We’re just really, really impressed with how he’s grown over the past couple of years. He’s been phenomenal.”

David Yanni – University of Pittsburgh (Baseball)
Major:
Business
Final list of colleges:  Pitt, Maryland, Boston College, St. John’s
Reasons for choosing Pitt:  “I decided on Pitt because going through my search I wanted to play in a really good baseball conference, and as Pitt moved to the ACC, I thought that was my best option. I fell in love with the campus, and I fell in love with the coaches and the program.”
What was the progression that led you to playing baseball at the collegiate level?  “Probably my freshman year and maybe even a little before, when I went to a showcase, there were some coaches that were interested in me, and that really opened up my eyes. I said, ‘I really have an opportunity here.’ I strived toward playing in college.”
Coach Kyle Dennis said: “David - I can’t say enough about that kid. He’s an incredible athlete, an incredible kid. He’s just a wonderful human being – Carter as well. David is getting a wonderful opportunity to play in the ACC, relatively close to home, and I think he’s going to do very well there.
“He’s the complete package. He’s one of the best baseball players I’ve seen come out of East in my tenure here. He just complete – he can throw, he can field , he can (hit). He’s a great leader – he leads by example, and he still puts an incredible amount of time in. Even with his talents, he’s still unbelievably devoted to his craft and getting better every single day. He’s the kind of kid that you teach to do something once or you mention something to him once, and he does it. Whether it be a little suggestion on this or that or you ask him to do something with the team, he just does it. David’s a great leader and a great kid.”
