CB South Seniors Commit to Play Collegiate Lax

On Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, Central Bucks South seniors Jake Henze, Brendan McGrath and Kevin Witchey were recognized for committing to play lacrosse at the collegiate level.

Jake Henze – Monmouth University (Lacrosse)
Major:
Criminal Justice
Final list of colleges:  Monmouth, Fairfield, Richmond, High Point
Reasons for choosing Monmouth:  “Just the whole setup, and the coaches were really nice and welcoming. I knew they were a growing program. South was a growing program when I first started, so I kind of like that. I like the setup of campus, how it’s on the beach.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate lacrosse?  “Right when I started high school, I knew I wanted to play lacrosse in college. I knew I just had to keep working harder and harder. As time went on, it paid off.”
Coach Mike Sharman says:  “Jake was a first team SOL midfielder last year and our team MVP. He has been a captain since his sophomore year and is a key contributor both offensively and defensively. Jake’s experience, focus and hustle will make him a key part of our team this coming season.”

Brendan McGrath – York College (Lacrosse)
Major:
Mechanical Engineering
Final list of colleges:  York, Elizabethtown, Widener, Franklin & Marshall
Reasons for choosing York:  “What the coach was looking for was the player, but he also was looking at the person – if you’ll fit in with the family they have there. I thought that was a really good way to pick people, and we already get along really well together. I met a lot of the people. I liked the school – it was a beautiful campus, and I’m excited to go for engineering.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate lacrosse?  “I always played since I was a little kid. It’s just something I loved to do. I kept getting better and better, and eventually, I came to the realization I could play in college. That was my goal through high school. I played on summer teams to get looked at by colleges. Even as a little kid, I wanted to go to college (and play a sport). It’s always something that was in my mind. It was a great day when I committed. It was on my birthday, and it was a great birthday present.”
Coach Mike Sharman says:  “Brendan was a first team attackman last year and won our offensive player of the year award. He led the team in scoring and will be the key player in our offense this coming season.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate lacrosse? “I started playing lacrosse in second grade, and ever since then, I knew I loved it. I started playing summer lacrosse a couple years after that, and that’s when I knew I wanted to play in college.”
Coach Mike Sharman says:  “Kevin was a third team SOL close defenseman and won our defensive player of the year award. He has been a captain since his junior year, and he is the backbone of our defense always drawing our toughest offensive opponent.”
