Taylor Hojnacki – University of Pennsylvania (Track/Field)
Major:
Biomedical Engineering
Final list of colleges:  Penn, Brown, Princeton, Lehigh
Reasons for choosing Penn:  “It’s close by, and they have a great engineering program. I loved the coach, and the team is great.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in track and field at the collegiate level?  “I started (throwing) in seventh grade – my brother introduced me. Starting my freshman year, I was really excited about the sport. The scores kept going up, and I got really excited. College coaches were contacting me, and that’s the point when I thought I could do this in college.”
Coach Rachel Beck says:  “Taylor is a thrower – she throws the shot put indoors, and she throws the shot put, discus and javelin outdoors. She was South’s first girls’ state champion in the discus, and not only that, she’s just a great kid to work with. She gets along well, not only with her own teammates but girls on other teams. Obviously, she’s very talented. She’s going to Penn – she’s got the whole package.”

Alexa Kwapinski – Lafayette College (Track)
Major:
Undecided
Final list of colleges:  Lafayette, St. Joe’s, Monmouth, Lehigh
Reasons for choosing Lafayette:  “Just the smaller environment – I felt like I fit in best there. Also, the academics were really promoted there.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in track at the collegiate level?  “I didn’t start track until ninth grade. In my junior year, I quit soccer to run cross country, and that’s when I knew I was going to run in college because I was taking that next step.”
Coach Rachel Beck says:  “Alexa is probably one of the speediest people on the team. She works so hard every day at practice. This year she is our secret weapon - last year was kind of a sleeper, and this year she is coming around. I can rely on her and put her anywhere, and she will deliver. She and Kaitlin are on a nationally ranked 4x800 relay.”

Kaitlin Poiesz – La Salle University (Track)
Major:
Nursing
Final list of colleges:  La Salle, Monmouth
Reasons for choosing La Salle:  “I had visited Monmouth long before La Salle. At La Salle, the team felt more like family, and the campus just felt more like me. The nursing program is really prestigious there, so it felt like a really good choice.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in track at the collegiate level?  “I’ve been running since fourth grade, and my dad and my brother all ran. It was kind of a family thing, and I’ve always wanted to run in college. I never second guessed it.”
Coach Rachel Beck says:  “Kaitlin is a distance runner as well. She’s a state qualifier in the mile and the 4x800 relay, and she’s on the 4x800 team with Alexa that is nationally ranked. She is a tough cookie. You could put her in any event, and she will run her heart out. They’re three great athletes, and I’m going to miss them so much – the team will miss them.”
