Millie Grove – University of New Hampshire (Volleyball)

Major: Biology

Final list of colleges:  UNH, Delaware, East Carolina

Reasons for choosing UNH: “I loved the atmosphere and the coaches. It was just perfect. When I visited, it was just a lot of fun. I loved the campus too.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in volleyball at the collegiate level?  “I knew I wanted to play in college since freshman year since I started, and I always dreamed of playing Division 1, and I’m so happy I get to accomplish that dream.

“Through club, I started looking at a bunch of different schools and doing a lot of research on different schools and what I’d like.”

Coach Kurt Godfrey says:  “Millie is irreplaceable. She’s a four-year varsity starter. She’s been the person who – whenever we’ve been in trouble, whenever we’ve needed a kill or a point, she’s who we turned to. She’s been a captain junior and senior year, but she was obviously part of varsity way before that. She started as a freshman and played three years on the outside for us. She’s the all-time leading scorer for CB South, both boys and girls. She’s unbelievable.

“Her stats are unbelievable, and the recognition she’s received – she’s the American Volleyball Coaches Association second team All-American, she’s the 2021 AVACA first team all-region, which is the five mid-Atlantic states. She was two-time player of year of the conference and four-time all-league – freshman year she was honorable mention and sophomore, junior and senior years she was first team. When I say irreplaceable, I can’t stress it enough. Even in a shortened season last year when we went 13-3, she had 260-plus kills in 16 games. It’s unbelievable. We’ve gone 60-20 with her during the regular season, not to mention playoff wins. She has been a giant part and who we will compare people to. She’s the first girl to ever hit a thousand kills. We had to order a banner that we’ll hang in the fall. Fortunately, she’s going to be playing, so we’ll have to FaceTime or Zoom her in, but we’ll certainly do some sort of celebration.”
