Yuriy Hryckowian –  Slippery Rock University (Football)
Major:
Business
Final list of colleges:  Slippery Rock, Shippensburg, Millersville
Reasons for choosing Slippery Rock:  “When I went there, I saw their program, and it just felt right. It felt like a good program, it felt like what I wanted to be part of.
What was the progression that led you to competing in football at the collegiate level? “Sophomore year I started to get better, and when coach Hetrick asked if anyone wanted to play college football sophomore going into junior year, I decided – I’ll try. Junior year I started getting interest, and senior year I got a lot more.”
Coach Tom Hetrick says:  “Yuriy was our offensive MVP this year, which doesn’t happen that often that we give an offensive lineman the MVP award, but he was the most consistent offensive player for us. Week in and week out, he was the leader on and off the field. He was a very nice kid off the field, but he definitely had bad intentions when he was on the field, and he played a very aggressive brand of football. He was a captain for us and a two-year starter. He was an outstanding kid, and I’m proud of him.”

Matt Tobey – California University of PA (Football)
Major:
Business/Education
Final list of colleges:  All the PSAC schools
Reasons for choosing Cal U:  “I was talking to all the schools in the PSAC schools, but I always had my eyes set on Cal. They’re such a winning program, they’re all about football instead of all the flash, and they’ve got a good coaching staff.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in football at the collegiate level?  “I never dreamed I’d play football in college. Sophomore year I was like – these can’t be my last 30 games. It’s just having a love for the game.”
Coach Tom Hetrick says:  “Matt Tobey is probably the most competitive football player I have ever coached. He has an edge about him that is an intense will to succeed. He was a leader more so by his actions than his words. Everybody modeled how they needed to play the game and the expectations of what we wanted from them by looking at Matt Tobey play the game. He contributed on the defensive side for three years, and this year as a senior played on the offensive side of the ball and got some carries, including six touchdowns. He is going to be greatly missed as a three-year starter on our defense. I’m very proud of not just the football player that he’s become but the man that he’s become.”
