Joey Loynd – University of Delaware (Baseball)

Major:  Undecided

Final list of colleges:  Delaware, La Salle

Reasons for choosing Delaware:  “I chose Delaware because I loved the atmosphere, and it was a beautiful campus. I think it was just the right fit for me.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in baseball at the collegiate level?  “I have always had the idea in my mind. I’ve always wanted to play baseball in college. I think after my sophomore year – I had a solid year in high school, and I think that was the time I decided I wanted to play in college.”

Coach Brian Klumpp says:  “He was getting some interest from other schools, but we got in contact with Delaware. They pretty much liked everything about him. I went with him and his parents for a visit. They walked the campus, they loved the school, and the coaches loved who Joey was not only as a baseball player but as a kid. He’s always the first one to shake your hand when you see him, and on the field, he stands out between his power numbers last year, his average and he does a great job fielding as well. The crazy thing is how many times he was walked, not only intentionally but just him having good approaches at the plate and not getting himself out, which is huge. Joey led the team in hits (26), average (.474), home runs (six), RBIs (27) and base on balls (23).”
