On Wednesday, Febuary 8, 2017, Central Bucks West seniors Jack Amsler, Ryan Bradley and Kenny Doak were recognized for committing to continue their football careers at the collegiate level. To view photos of the event, please visit the Photo Gallery.

“All three of them – their work ethic is what puts them past other players,” coach Chas Cathers said. “That’s what you need to be successful at the collegiate level because it’s going to be tough, it’s going to be challenging. I remember when I played – you got older, and the guys they bring in got younger and faster, so you have to have a really good work ethic in order to be successful. I think their work ethic is going to carry them through.”

Jake Amsler – Juniata College (Football)
Major:
Secondary Education
Final list of colleges:  Juniata, Gettysburg, Kenyon
Reasons for choosing Juniata:  “It came down to where I felt most comfortable, and I loved the coaches at Juniata.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in football at the collegiate level?  “I have wanted to do it for a long time, probably since I started playing Pop Warner when I was in first grade.I’ve always wanted to play college football.”
Coach Chas Cathers says: “Jake had a tough year this year because he battled some injuries, but he was a captain for us. He’s the type of kid that won’t miss a single workout in the offseason. He loves football. He’s a program player, and he’s going to do what you need all of your players to do. He’s a respectful player, he’s going to give you 100 percent, and he’s never going to quit. I think he’s going to really excel. He loves the game, and he’s mentioned before he wants to get into coaching, which I think would be perfect for him because he does a great job with his knowledge of the game.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in football at the collegiate level?  “Ever since I was little I’ve thought it was something I wanted to try because I’ve always played football.”
Coach Chas Cathers says:  “As a player, Ryan has made leaps and bounds since we first started coaching. He’s developed into a heck of a good football player. The nice thing about Ryan is when you show him how to do something he never forgets it. He just wants to get better and better and work harder and harder to be the best player that he can be. He’s got a tremendous work ethic.”

Kenny Doak – University of Maine (Football)
Major:
Kinesiology
Final list of colleges:  Maine, Coastal Carolina, Bowling Green, Delaware
Reasons for choosing Maine:  “Maine felt like a brotherhood to me and just felt right when I went up for my official visit. The coaches were completely honest with me the whole time and are giving me the opportunity to succeed immediately in the program.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in football at the collegiate level?  “In ninth grade, I started pursuing it. I knew I wanted to play Division One football. It’s always been a dream of mine. In seventh and eighth grade, it was always who could kick the ball the farthest.  In 10th grade, I started working with coach (Travis) Forney. He’s a former Penn State kicker from CB West, and he just helped me out a lot and he got me to where I am today.
“I also want to say thanks to Luke Gaddis, my one-on-one kicking trainer.”
Coach Chas Cathers says:  “Having such a great kicker like Kenny, it allows you to manage the game a little bit easier. It’s a game of field position, so when you’re able to flip the field and be in good position, it increases your chances of winning. Kenny did just that for us as far as kickoffs, as far as punts. Even on field goals, he won us a game last year in overtime, which is as clutch as you can get.
“There’s no question in my mind that he’s going to do a heck of a job at the University of Maine. I’m really looking forward to following his career. He’s such a competitor, so I know when he gets up on campus and around the guys, he’s going to compete for that starting job. There’s no question in my mind.”
