Luke Cimakasky – University of Pittsburgh Johnstown (Track & Cross Country)

Major:  Mechanical Engineering

Final list of colleges:  Pitt Johnstown, Hartford, Loyola (Md.), Moravian

Reasons for choosing Pitt Johnstown: “I just thought that the team was really good for me. I felt like I’d be a good fit, and I’d have a lot of good chances to run there.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in track and cross country at the collegiate level?  “It was in my sophomore year that I started thinking about it because a lot of my friends were committing, and I thought – maybe this is a chance for me too. My junior year came, and I really started to see my times drop, and a lot of schools offered me trips to see it, and I thought I should take them up.”

Coach Greg Wetzel says:   “Luke ‘Cim’ is a great competitor who Coach Mahoney and I have thoroughly enjoyed preparing for the next level. Luke earned a state medal this winter at the indoor State Championship on March 1 at Penn State University.  Luke was the third leg of our 4x800m relay that medaled for the 13th consecutive State Championship and continued a legacy of CB West 4x800 excellence.
“Coach Mahoney and I knew that Luke would be the next great CB West distance guy since his strong finish to his track season a year ago when he finished second in the SOL Continental 3200m run with a big personal best of 9:46.02. Luke also graduates with a solo mile best of 4:31.95 in the Quakertown dual meet last spring and a best of 16:15 in the 5k at the William Tennent Invitational this past fall.
“We are excited to see Luke prove what he can do at the next level, as this is something that we have always known would be in his future with the way that he is wired and is willing to work.”
