Valorie Erickson – Susquehanna University (Field Hockey)

Major:  Biology

Final list of colleges: Susquehanna, Fairleigh Dickinson, Duquesne, Penn State

Reasons for choosing Susquehanna:  “Overall, Susquehanna has a lot of opportunities, and since it’s a liberal arts college, I thought combining a liberal arts college and the sport that I really want to play is a good mixture for me. Everyone seemed really genuine when I went there, and I just liked the atmosphere. I just felt at home when I was there.”

What was the progression that led you to playing field hockey at the collegiate level?  “I was doubting myself a lot, thinking ‘I’m not going to play.’ Just the love for the game and thinking I’m not going to continue this after high school kind of hurt my feelings, so I was like, ‘You now what – I’m going to try and play.’ I put two and two together and went for it. I ended up getting a lot of college e-mails, and it only made me want to play even more. It was just the love for the game and to keep going.”

Coach Courtney Lepping says:  “She’s just a hard worker. She was someone who is really passionate about the sport and constantly was working to get better, so I’m glad that she’s getting an opportunity to continue playing at Susquehanna.”
