CB West's Greer to Play Baseball at St. Joseph's University

On Thursday, March 16, 2023, Central Bucks West senior Sam Greer was recognized for committing to continue his baseball career at St. Joseph’s University.

Sam Greer – St. Joseph’s University (Baseball)

Major: Finance

Reasons for choosing St. Joe’s: “At first when the coach reached out to me, I didn’t know about the whole school, but then I went there on a tour, and I loved it. I loved the campus, I loved the team, and the family aspect of it was amazing.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in baseball at the collegiate level?  “I knew from a young age - from 13- that I wanted to play. It was just about putting in the hard work to be able to do it.”

Coach Brian Weaver says: “Everything you need to know about Sam Greer can be summed up by his favorite memory. He threw three games in the playoffs – he threw just shy of 20 innings and didn’t give up a run against the number three seed and the number one seed and the eventual state champion, and rather than saying, ‘My favorite memory is doing all that…,’ it was ‘when my teammate was throwing a perfect game.’
“Sam’s a kid who came to us with a lot of hype, and while living up to that hype, he has established himself as the consummate team player. On offense, he’s one of the best left-handed power hitters in the league, so he’s dangerous there and can beat you. He’s turned himself into a very good defensive first baseman, which isn’t a position that he’d regularly lined up at before he was playing at West, and as a pitcher, he can beat you in a number of ways. When his fastball’s on, it’s one of the best in the entire state, and he’s got the off-speed stuff to match.
“We’ve been fortunate to have a lot of talent the past few years, and Sam has been a really big part of that crew. He’s become a leader over the last few years, which is something that we really need this year from our senior class, and the fact that he’s committed to a good Division 1 school playing for a good staff with a chance to be a key player early on in his college career is a testament to his character and his dedication all year round. We’re really lucky that of all the places he could have landed – he landed with us.”
